Sailing builds leadership and character. Sailing more than any other sport or hobby deals in uncertainty. Wind and waves give little or no deference to the conformity of a standardized football field or soccer pitch. Tides, current and foul weather could care less about a strike-zone. Whether racing or cruising, a sailor is challenged to use their wits, skill and creativity at every turn. For nearly 70 years, the Sailing program at NC State has been an integral part of college life in Raleigh, forging young leaders through on-the-water, hands-on problem solving, a core commitment to good sportsmanship and, like a true WOLFPACK, a strong emphasis on teamwork and community.
Many of you may know that the NC State Sailing program is a wholly volunteer-run organization, from our student leaders to our volunteer coach to our alumni and community mentors. We receive limited funding from the University which covers only a faction (~16-18%) of our overall operating budget for travel, housing, equipment maintenance, and competition expenses. Fundraising helps us make ends meet, and that financial support also helps us host events like the SailPack Women's Intercollegiate Regatta, and coed Triangle Tango Regatta in Raleigh each fall season, as well as our signature event, the SailPack Oriental Intercollegiate Regatta in our coastal home of Oriental, North Carolina each spring. Your support also helps us put on summer community sailing events in Raleigh free of charge and open to the public.
Often people ask us how they can help and the best answer we can offer it help us make all this possible with a donation. We're hoping to make this easy for our supporters with the SailPack Membership, a small individual contribution. If you’d like we’ll recognize you as a supporter on our website, at our regattas, and on TownDock.net (Oriental's premier media outlet) - of course, only if you want. You can opt out of being listed. We’ll keep in touch with updates on our team and all things happening with our program, too (again, only if you want). With your membership donations, we will continue to put our everything into this program to make you and our entire community proud. You will know that you’re a part of something important happening right here and now, something bigger than sailing.
